4th Floor Press Authors Win Big at the 2009 IPPY Awards!

Congratulations to Corinne Hoebers and her intriguing historical fiction novel, Call of a Distant Shore, for claiming the Silver Medal for Canada East Best Fiction at the 2009 IPPY Awards! Proudly presented by the Jenkins Group each year, the IPPY Awards (Independent Publisher Book Awards) acknowledge the best independently produced works (from both traditional and self-publishers) in 65 categories from across North America. We couldn’t be happier here at 4th Floor Press to see Ms. Hoebers receive her Silver Medal! Call of a Distant Shore is a brilliantly told story of German immigration to Canada’s Eastern shores in the 1750s that truly deserves this recognition.

Also, receiving a Bronze Medal in the category of Canada East Best Regional Non-Fiction at the 2009 IPPY Awards, were our very own father and son writing duo, Ted and Rick Fearnley for their hilarious book, Life’s Lessons: A Successful Collection of Failures. 4th Floor Press is thrilled to see this beautiful book (available in both soft cover and hard cover dust-jacketed editions) take such a prestigious prize. Based on the Fearnley family follies over the generations, this collection of short stories is both poignant and side-splittingly funny. Congratulations Fearnleys for your continued success with Life’s Lesson: A Successful Collection of Failures!

Children’s Book Published by 4th Floor Press Helps Porters in Nepal!

Jocey Asnong’s children’s book, ‘Nuptse and Lhotse in Nepal,’ is helping to protect, and maybe even save, lives. As part of the decision to self publish with 4th Floor Press, Ms. Asnong wanted to make sure her book had a tangible positive influence in the world. She decided that part of the profits from her book would be donated to three organizations in Nepal that had touched her heart during her time there. One of these groups, the International Porter Protection Group (IPPG), runs a vital porter service in Kathmandu where porters can ‘sign out’ warm clothing, hiking boots, sleeping bags and other high altitude equipment for free. Sadly, this service was forced to close its doors last year. Known as the Porters Clothing Bank, IPPG is pleased to announce that the recent donation from ‘Nuptse and Lhotse in Nepal’ will be used specifically to help re-establish and open this facility with other kind donations by Fall 2009! ‘Nuptse and Lhotse in Nepal’ supports and donates to the following organizations: International Porter Protection Group (IPPG) www.ippg.net SERVE Nepal (SA Foundation) www.serve-nepal.org Kathmandu Environmental Education Program (KEEP) www.keepnepal.org Nepal Education Fund www.nepaledfund.ca
